Space NK opens at St Martins Yard, the first store to trade in Coney Street Riverside

Space NK opened its new York store at St Martins Yard on Coney Street on Friday 25 September 2026. It is the first store to trade within St Martins Yard, the opening phase of Helmsley Group's Coney Street Riverside regeneration.

The store occupies the former JD Sports unit within the restored listed buildings at 3–7 Coney Street. Helmsley Group announced the letting earlier this month, alongside a second letting to café operator Federal.

Shoppers began queuing from around 8am. YorkMix reported that the queue ran along Coney Street, into St Helen's Square, past the Mansion House and on through Lendal.

Space NK, which trades from more than 80 stores across the UK and Ireland, has carried out a fantastic fit-out, to its latest store design.

The fit-out follows a full programme of landlord's works by Helmsley Group across the buildings. These covered new roofs, new windows, re-rendered elevations, restored shopfronts and external areas brought back into use.

Federal will take the neighbouring space over ground and first floors, with a courtyard to the rear, and is due to open in November.

St Martins Yard is the first phase of Coney Street Riverside, Helmsley Group's masterplan for a regeneration of Coney Street.

Max Reeves, development director at Helmsley Group, said: "A queue down Coney Street and on through Lendal on the first morning is a good start. The opening offers helped and we would not read too much into one day, but it shows what the right occupier in the right building does for the street.

"These buildings needed a great deal of work before anyone could trade from them, and Space NK is the first result of that. Federal follows, and St Martins Yard is only the first phase of what is planned for Coney Street. We are looking forward to announcing what comes next."
