Helmsley Group announces Oliver Bonas York store opening

Helmsley Group has confirmed that the new Oliver Bonas store at 1 King’s Square in York is now open, following its relocation to a larger new premises.

The opening follows a successful letting agreement between Helmsley Group and Oliver Bonas, enabling the popular fashion and homeware retailer to move from its former premises at 35 Stonegate to a significantly larger space in the heart of York.

The new store occupies the 2,164 sq ft ground floor of the building, offering customers an enhanced shopping experience, whilst Helmsley Group plans to develop new high-quality residential accommodation in the upper floors of the building.

The new store has seen a bespoke interior fit-out that reflects the brand’s distinctive style while complementing the building’s heritage features.

Tom Riddolls, development surveyor at Helmsley Group, commented: “We’re really pleased to welcome Oliver Bonas to this fantastic new space in York. We know the brand already has a loyal following in the city, and we’re confident this move will help them grow even further. King’s Square is a prime location for retail, with excellent visibility and consistently high footfall, perfect for a much-loved brand like Oliver Bonas to continue expanding.”

Additionally, the residential offering aligns with Helmsley Group’s wider strategy to revitalise underutilised spaces across York. This is also outlined in the masterplan for nearby Coney Street Riverside which recently revealed details of St Martins Yard, the development’s first commercial and residential phase which is expected to start on site later this year.

Max Reeves added: “At Helmsley, we’re committed to unlocking the potential of York’s historic buildings. By bringing disused upper floors back into use, we’re helping to create much-needed homes in the city centre while preserving its unique character.”

The Coney Street Riverside project will see Helmsley Group regenerate a key area of York, enhancing both retail and residential offerings and reconnecting the high street with the river to create a vibrant new destination.
